Gaviscon Double Action 500ml oral suspension gets to work quickly. First, the antacids calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate help neutralise acid already in the stomach. Then, sodium alginate forms a soft protective layer that sits on top of the stomach contents, helping to stop acid from moving up into the oesophagus — the main cause of that burning feeling after eating.

The best time to use Gaviscon Double Action suspension is after meals, at bedtime, or whenever symptoms begin.

Adults and children 12 years and over:

• Take 10–20ml (two to four 5ml spoonfuls) after meals and before going to bed.
• Do not take more than four doses in 24 hours.

Under 12 years: Only give on the advice of a doctor.

• If you accidentally take too much, you may feel bloated. This is not usually harmful, but check with a pharmacist or GP if needed.
• If symptoms continue after seven days, seek medical advice.

Do not use it if you are allergic to any of the listed ingredients. Allergic reactions are rare but can include rash, itching, or swelling of the face or throat.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before use if:

• You are following a low-salt or low-calcium diet — each 10ml dose contains around 128mg of sodium.
• You take other medicines. Leave at least two hours between this product and any other tablets or liquids you take by mouth, as Gaviscon can affect absorption.

It can be used safely in pregnancy and while breastfeeding, though you should confirm with your healthcare professional first.

Contains preservatives: Methyl (E218) and propyl (E216) parahydroxybenzoates, which may cause delayed allergic reactions in some people.
