Overview

The FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor is a compact, Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) sensor. It is used to measure blood sugar levels in diabetic patients instead of the outdated method of pricking fingers.

It can measure glucose levels day and night to determine the impact of your diet and exercise on your blood sugar levels.

Why Choose FreeStyle Libre 2 Flash Glucose Monitoring System?

  • ✅ Receive real-time blood glucose readings to your smartphone every minute.
  • ✅ Small and discreet sensor for comfortable wear.
  • ✅ No finger pricks required for easy glucose monitoring.
  • ✅ Alarms for high, low glucose levels and signal loss.
  • ✅ Water-resistant for everyday activities, including swimming.
  • ✅ Easy application and 14-day wear.
  • ✅ Continuous glucose readings day and night for better tracking and management.
  • ✅ Store up to 8 hours of glucose readings in 15-minute intervals.

How does FreeStyle Libre 2 work?

The FreeStyle Libre 2 Sensor is designed to be positioned on the back of your upper arm. The FreeStyle Libre Reader (sold separately) is placed over the sensor to get a reading from it.

It uses a straightforward connection to validate the reading, much like how a contactless credit or debit card works.

It also functions well while being covered by clothing. As long as nothing knocks the sensor off of the arm, it can remain on for up to 14 days.

Showering or bathing is safe because the FreeStyle Libre 2 Sensor is water resistant, however extra caution might be needed.

Applying the FreeStyle Libre 2 Sensor

  • Peel the cover fully off to expose the sensor pack. Remove the cap from the sensor applicator and set the cap aside.

  • Align the dark mark on the sensor applicator to the sensor pack's dark mark. On a solid surface, press down firmly on the sensor applicator until it stops.

  • When the site is prepared, lay the sensor applicator over it and press down hard to secure the sensor.

  • Check the sensor after installation. Reapply the sensor applicator's lid. Discard  the used sensor pack and sensor applicator properly.

How is the FreeStyle Libre 2 Sensor different from the FreeStyle Libre Sensor?

The FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor is the next generation of the original FreeStyle Libre sensor. For patients who require them, it provides optional glucose alarms. The FreeStyle Libre 2 system makes it possible to use optional alarms by using bluetooth technology.

By providing customizable alarms for low glucose and high glucose, the FreeStyle Libre 2 system offers a simple, user-friendly alarm experience.

Additionally, it features a technological function that alerts the user in the event of a signal loss, such as when the sensor is unable to connect to the reader.

Depending on the user's preferences, the system will either vibrate or play a sound to notify them. The user can continue to scan their FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor as often as desired to view their eight-hour history, trends, and glucose reading.

The user can act on the information to take the necessary actions as needed when it comes to decisions about medication or food based on the information presented. If someone does not want the alarms, they can opt to leave them off so that they are not interrupted.

How long is the life of each sensor?

Each Libre 2 sensor lasts for 14 days while maintaining good accuracy over the course of two weeks.

How precise is Libre 2's system?

When taking into account mean absolute relative difference (MARD), which is a performance indicator for CGM systems, the Libre 2 system has been found to be incredibly accurate.

As long as you use each sensor appropriately and according to manufacturer recommendations, it maintains this accuracy for the course of the 14 days that you use it.

Can children use this glucose monitoring device?

Children four years old and older can use the FreeStyle Libre 2 glucose monitoring device.

When shouldn't you use this product?

When using an automatic insulin dosing system (AID), such as a closed loop or insulin suspend system, you shouldn't use the FreeStyle Libre 2 system.

While using this product, you shouldn't consume more than 500mg of vitamin C daily because the supplement may cause your sensor readings to appear higher than they actually are.

To ensure you receive the most accurate results possible, always carefully adhere to the manufacturer's recommendations. If you have any questions concerning the blood glucose testing process or the findings, consult your doctor or the rest of the medical staff.

Do you need to remove the sensor during medical tests?

Although you can typically wear your Libre 2 sensor all the time, you may need to take it off for some medical exams in order to avoid interference. Before having any of the following tests, you should take your sensor out:

  • MRI
  • CT scan
  • X-ray
  • Diathermy treatment

FAQ

  • The Freestyle Libre 2 sensor: what is it?

The second generation of the Freestyle Libres' continuous glucose monitoring system includes the Freestyle Libre 2 sensor. For both adults and children with diabetes aged 4 and above, this sensor can deliver 14 days of precise data when used with the Libre 2 reader.

You don't need to take and test blood in order to read your results—just a quick, painless scan will do. Even better, this device offers real-time alarms that may be turned on to notify you if your blood sugar levels are getting too high or too low. Your Libre2 sensor is included in this kit; the reader is available separately.

  • What is diabetes?

Diabetes is a chronic disease that reduces the quantity of insulin your body can produce. There are two forms of diabetes; Type 1 diabetes results in complete inability to make insulin, whereas Type 2 diabetes results in diminished insulin production.

Insulin is a hormone that aids in the body's release of blood glucose into the body so that it can provide you with the energy you require to function.

You may experience extreme fatigue, rapid weight loss, extreme thirst, impaired vision, and other typical symptoms of diabetes if your body isn't creating enough insulin to allow the glucose in your blood to enter your cells efficiently.

  • How long is the life of each sensor?

Each Libre 2 sensor lasts for 14 days while maintaining good accuracy over the course of two weeks. This makes it the longest-lasting iCGM sensor currently on the market because you only need to utilise 2 sensors to be covered for the majority of a month. The Libre 2's durability may be just what you need if you're seeking for a

simple way to track your blood sugar levels over time.

  • The FreeStyle Libre 2 system is intended for who?

The FreeStyle Libre 2 system is recommended for diabetics aged 4 and older. For those who desire or need them, including those with type 2 diabetes, it has real-time, optional glucose alarms.

  • How do I launch the FreeStyle Libre 2 app and activate my FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor?

Bluetooth needs to be enabled in order to launch a FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor with the FreeStyle Libre 2 app. Your FreeStyle Libre 2 app must be open or running in the background, your phone and sensor must be Bluetooth-connected, and phone Notifications must be turned on in order to receive alarms on your phone.

  • How do the FreeStyle Libre and FreeStyle Libre 2 systems vary from one another?

With the addition of optional, real-time glucose alarms, the FreeStyle Libre 2 system offers all the functionality of the FreeStyle Libre system. The FreeStyle Libre 2 smartphone app has three real-time glucose alarms that are optional. A signal loss alarm, a high glucose alarm, and a low glucose alarm are all included.

For paediatric use, the FreeStyle Libre 2 system is recommended for kids ages 4 and above.

  • Is the accuracy of the FreeStyle Libre 2 system comparable to that of the first FreeStyle Libre system?

Even when glucose levels are low, decreasing, or rapidly fluctuating, the FreeStyle Libre 2 system offers better accuracy and does not require routine confirmatory finger pricks for treatment decisions.

  • Is there communication between the FreeStyle Libre 2 system and an insulin pump?

No, there isn't currently any communication between an insulin pump and the FreeStyle Libre 2 system. But as with any novel technology, Abbott is looking into a wide range of potential uses.

  • What is the difference between Blood Glucose Meters (BGM) and CGM?

    • Measure glucose levels at a single moment in time
    • Require finger pricks to get a blood sample
