  • What is Clenil Modulite used for?

Clenil Modulite is used to prevent asthma symptoms. It does not provide immediate relief from breathing difficulty.

The active ingredient, beclometasone dipropionate, is a corticosteroid that works inside the lungs to:

    • Reduce inflammation
    • Decrease swelling in the airways
    • Lower irritation that can trigger asthma symptoms

When used every day as prescribed, it helps keep asthma under control and reduces the risk of attacks.

Always keep a fast-acting reliever inhaler available for sudden symptoms.

If you are struggling to breathe, cannot speak in full sentences, or your rescue inhaler is not helping, seek emergency medical attention immediately.

  • How to Use Clenil Modulite

Use Clenil Modulite exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

It is a daily preventer inhaler and must be used regularly, even if you feel well. It does not relieve sudden asthma symptoms.

    General guidance:

    • Usually taken twice daily
    • The exact dose and strength depend on your asthma severity
    • Do not stop using it unless advised by your doctor

    How to take a dose

    • Remove the mouthpiece cover and check it is clean
    • Breathe out gently
    • Place the mouthpiece in your mouth and seal your lips around it
    • Start breathing in slowly and press down once to release a puff
    • Continue to breathe in deeply
    • Hold your breath for a few seconds, then breathe out slowly

If more than one puff is prescribed, wait about 30 seconds before repeating.

    After use

Rinse your mouth with water and spit out. This helps reduce the risk of thrush.

If you are unsure how to use your inhaler correctly, ask your pharmacist or doctor for advice.

For full instructions on dosing, spacer use, cleaning, side effects and storage, please read the Patient Information Leaflet supplied with your inhaler.

    Important

    • Do not use this inhaler to treat sudden asthma attacks.
    • Seek urgent medical advice if breathing worsens immediately after use.
    • Children using long-term treatment should have their growth monitored.
  • Clenil Modulite Side Effects

Like all medicines, Clenil Modulite can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

Very common (more than 1 in 10 people)

    • Oral thrush (fungal infection in the mouth or throat), especially at higher doses

To help prevent this, rinse your mouth with water and spit out after each dose.

    • Hoarse voice
    • Sore throat or tongue

Using a spacer device and rinsing your mouth after use may reduce these effects.

For full details, including complete frequency categories, please read the Patient Information Leaflet supplied with your inhaler.

FAQ

  • How do I know when my inhaler is empty?

Clenil Modulite contains 200 doses. The dose indicator moves in steps of 20. When it shows 20, you should request a new inhaler. When “0” appears, the inhaler is empty and should not be used, even if it feels like medicine remains.

  • Is a spacer required with Clenil Modulite?

A spacer device is recommended for children and for adults taking high total daily doses (1000 micrograms or more). It can improve the delivery of the medicine and reduce the risk of side effects in the mouth.

  • What should I do if my breathing worsens immediately after using it?

If you experience increased wheezing or shortness of breath straight after using the inhaler, stop using it, use your reliever inhaler and seek medical advice urgently.

  • Can Clenil affect a child’s growth?

Long-term use of high doses may slow growth in children. Doctors monitor height regularly and prescribe the lowest effective dose.

  • How should I clean the inhaler?

Clean the mouthpiece opening weekly using a dry cotton swab. Do not remove the metal canister and do not use water or other liquids.

  • What happens if I use too much?

Using more than prescribed may affect natural steroid levels. Contact your doctor if you take more than directed.

  • How should Clenil Modulite be stored?

Store below 30°C. Protect from frost and direct heat. Do not puncture or burn the canister, even when empty.
