Overview

What is Finacea gel?

Finacea gel is a topical medication used to treat papulopustular acne and papulopustular rosacea. It contains 15% Azelaic acid and can also be referred to as Finacea cream.

Azelaic acid has anti-inflammatory and microbial properties therefore it helps in reducing bacteria that cause Acne and Rosacea, finishes Rosacea and acne visibility by reducing inflammation, and promotes healing of the skin through new cell production.

How does Finacea gel work?

Finacea gel unclogs pores by blocking natural keratin production on the skin surface. Keratin can be a significant protein on your skin when produced in the right quantities, it works by binding cells together, however, excess production of keratin results in the formation of keratin plugs.

Keratin plugs combine with dead skin cells and block the hair follicles—azelaic acid works by killing propionibacterium, which deeds on sebum and produces fatty acids and waste products.

The fatty acids and waste products irritate the sebaceous glands, causing inflammation, spots, and bumps on your face. Azelaic acid in Fiancea treats acne and rosacea by unclogging the skin pores and sebaceous glands. The exfoliating effect of Finacea gel gives you smoother clearer skin.

How long does it take for Finacea to work?

The results depend on how quickly your body responds to the treatment and the severity of your skin disorder.

Generally, you will notice improvements after 4 weeks of using Finacea gel treatment. When treating acne you should notice an improvement after 1 month but if symptoms persist discontinue the treatment and seek medical advice from your pharmacist.

When treating rosacea, you should notice improvements after 2 months but if the rosacea gets worse, discontinue the Finacea treatment and consult a medical professional.

Finacea gel during pregnancy and breastfeeding

It is advisable to consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or nursing your child before using Finacea treatment.

Nursing mothers should ensure that their infants do not come in contact with the treated skin areas or breasts. Most of the medications get into the breast milk, and nursing mothers are advised not to use Finacea treatment while breastfeeding.
