  • Ear Infection Treatment Spray (Replacement for Otomize)

About Otomize ear spray - 5ml

    Dexamethasone 0.1% w/w, Neomycin sulfate 0.5% w/w

Otomize Ear Spray is no longer sold under that brand name in the UK. Ennogen Healthcare International Limited discontinued it in mid-2025 and replaced it with a generic version containing the same active ingredients: Dexamethasone 0.1% w/w, Neomycin sulfate 0.5% w/w, and Acetic acid 2% w/w. New stock became available to wholesalers in May 2025, and by July 2025 pharmacies were advised to stop ordering Otomize. On this page, “Otomize” refers to the generic Ear Infection Treatment Spray.

Otomize is a prescription-only medicated ear spray used to treat outer ear infections, including swimmer's ear (Otitis Externa).

Its triple-action formula reduces swelling with dexamethasone, fights bacteria with neomycin sulfate, and creates an acidic environment with acetic acid to stop bacterial growth, while also relieving inflammation, itching, and pain.

  • Why Prescribed Otomize Ear Spray?

Doctors prescribe Otomize ear calm spray for mild to moderate outer ear infections. It helps reduce inflammation in the ear often caused by damage, irritation, or infection of the skin inside the ear canal. It's used for:

    • Bacterial ear infections
    • Inflammation of the ear
    • Itching and irritation in the ear canal

Remember, ear infections can be confusing for allergies or other symptoms. Suppose you may have a perforated eardrum or a blocked ear. In these cases, you cannot use Otomize.

  • How Does Otomize ear spray Work?

Otomize contains three active ingredients and works in 3 way:

Dexamethasone: It is a  topical corticosteroid medicine works to reduce inflammation.

Neomycin Sulfate: A broad-spectrum antibiotic that eliminates many different types of bacteria causing the infection. Neomycin sulfate helps your body heal and get rid of the infection.

Acetic Acid: It creates an acidic environment in your ear canal, making it difficult for bacteria to grow and survive, thus preventing the infection from worsening.

  • What is swimmer’s ear (otitis externa), and how does it affect the ear?

Swimmer's ear, or otitis externa, can be really uncomfortable, painful condition and cause a lot of unpleasant feelings in your ear.

Swimmer's ear, commonly affects children and swimmers, but it doesn't transmit from one person to another.

It's basically redness, swelling, irritation, or infection in your outer ear canal (tube that goes from the opening of the ear to the eardrum).

These infections happen when something like soap, insects, or water makes the ear canal vulnerable to inflammation from itching, poking, and scratching.

Swimming in dirty water is a common cause of swimmer's ear (otitis externa). Other causes may include being in warm, humid environments, cleaning or scratching the ear canal with fingers or objects, ear canal injuries, dry skin in the ear canal, or excess earwax.
