Overview

NOTE: After selecting this product, you will need to complete a short assessment, so we can make sure this medication is suitable for you.

What is Mysimba?

Mysimba (POM) is a weight-loss tablet for adults with obesity (BMI over 30) or overweight (BMI 27-30) with weight-related health conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol.

It combines two drugs, naltrexone and bupropion, to help reduce appetite and support weight loss when used with a doctor-recommended healthy diet and exercise plan.

BMI Definition: BMI is a measure of body weight in relation to height. Obesity in adults is defined as a BMI of 30 or higher. Overweight is defined as a BMI between 27 and less than 30.

What is Mysimba tablets used for?

Mysimba (prescription weight loss treatment) is used by overweight or obese adults, in conjunction with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, to support weight loss.

Approval for Use:

Mysimba is approved for use in patients with a BMI of 30 or higher. It can also be prescribed for those with a BMI between 27 and less than 30 if they have additional weight-related conditions such as high blood pressure (hypertension), type 2 diabetes, or high lipid (fat) levels in the blood.

Overweight & Obesity

To be considered overweight, an adult needs a BMI of at least 27kg/m2. For obesity, it's a BMI of at least 30kg/m2. Those with a BMI under 30kg/m2 may be eligible for the drug if they are at risk of weight-related problems.

If, after 16 weeks, the patient hasn't lost at least 5 percent of their starting weight, the doctor might stop giving them Mysimba.

Additionally, the doctor could recommend stopping Mysimba treatment if they are concerned about the patient's blood pressure increasing or other safety issues.

How does Mysimba work?

Struggling with constant cravings and feeling sluggish? Mysimba might be the solution that effective. Mysimba works differently from laxatives and stimulants. It doesn't directly affect your intestines' movements. Instead, it works on your brain.

It helps you by using two ingredients: naltrexone and bupropion. These ingredients work on your brain in two ways:

  • Naltrexone (opiate antagonists) reduces your desire for food ( less interested in food)
  • Bupropion (antidepressants) makes you feel fuller or more satisfied and boosts calorie burning

Together, they help reduce hunger and cravings, allowing you to eat smaller meals and avoid snacking on foods that could lead to weight gain. This makes it easier to stick to a healthy diet and lose weight.

About naltrexone and bupropion

Both naltrexone and bupropion have been used for over 30 years to treat other conditions, like quitting smoking, by controlling cravings.

Mysimba alternatives for weight loss

While Mysimba is a popular weight loss medication, it's not the only option out there. There are several alternatives to consider, such as:

  • Saxenda (injectable medicine)
  • Wegovy (semaglutide injection pen)
  • Orlistat (Branded weight loss hard capsules)
  • Xenical (generic version of Orlistat)
  • Ozempic (A semaglutide weight loss injection for Type 2 Diabetes)
  • Phentermine (an appetite suppressant)

These treatments differ in their active ingredients and how they work, making it essential to explore your options and consult with a healthcare professional to find the best fit for you.
