What is Mounjaro?
Mounjaro, manufactured by Eli Lilly, is a weekly injectable for weight loss. Tirazepatide is the active component found in it. It mimics two hormones to increase feelings of fullness after consuming less food.
This can help you lose up to 22.5% of your starting weight when paired with a nutritious diet and regular exercise. It was recently licensed in the UK for the purpose of weight loss and is available on prescription at Ashcroft Pharmacy.
Who can use Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is suitable for weight loss if you have:
- a BMI of at least 30 kg/m2 (obesity)
- a risk factor or weight-related health issue (such as high blood pressure) along with a BMI of 27 kg/m2 or more (overweight).
Mounjaro can be used by patients who have the following risk factors:
- Type 2 diabetes
- High cholesterol levels

How does Tirazepatide work?
Tirzepatide is the active component of Mounjaro. Tirzepatide is a member of the GLP-1 agonist medication class. These medications function similarly to the natural GLP-1 hormone, which is secreted in the gut following a meal and controls appetite.
It makes you feel satiated and less hungry. This may cause you to consume fewer calories, which will cause you to lose weight. Controlling your diet can make the results even more effective.
Additionally, Mounjaro helps keep extra sugar from being turned into fat, which lowers the amount of fat that the body stores.
How effective is Mounjaro?

How to use it?
This treatment should be taken in conjunction with a well-balanced, calorie controlled/nutritional diet. No more than 30% of your calories should come from fat and your diet should generally be rich in fruit and vegetables.
You need to ensure to keep good levels of hydration by drinking 8-11 cups of liquid per day (2.7L)
The injection weight loss medication must be administered using the following method: Inject your dose of medication under the skin (subcutaneous injection) in your stomach area (abdomen), upper leg (thigh), or upper arm, as instructed by your healthcare provider. Do not inject into a vein or muscle. Never share your pen or needles with another person. You may give an infection to them, or get an infection from them.
If you want to use Mounjaro to lose weight, you need to inject the dose once a week at the same time and on the same day. This lessens the possibility of adverse effects and boosts the efficacy of Tirzepatide by stabilising its bloodstream levels.
Always carefully follow your doctor's instructions for the safe injection of Mounjaro. An simplified version of the injection technique is provided here:
- Determine the area where to inject the medication (preferably thigh or abdomen)
- Wash your hands
- Get the Mounjaro pen ready, make sure the liquid appears as it should, and make sure it isn't broken or expired
- Attach a new needle
- As you hear two clicks, turn the dosage knob slowly
- To ensure that the pen is operating properly, prime it to expel air bubbles
- Select the advised dosage
- Insert the needle, press the dosage knob all the way down, and count to 5
- Once the needle has been removed from your skin, see if the dose count has returned to "0."
- Take out the needle and put the pen cap back on.
Where to inject Mounjaro?
Ideally, you should inject Mounjaro into your stomach or upper legs. If you choose to inject in your stomach, leave at least a 5cm gap from the belly button. To avoid soreness, choose a new section of skin every week, even if it's in the same area.

Mounjaro Dosage
A dosing plan is included with Mounjaro so you can gradually increase your dosage. This lessens the likelihood of typical side effects including nausea and vomiting. You will only take one dosage per week, regardless of the dosage you are taking.
